Center Profile and Policy

Administration
  Founded 1976. Administered by founder, Judith Flynn, an experienced Montessori Directress
   
  Accredited by Association Montessori Internationale.
 
Classrooms
Montessori Children's Center has two classrooms. Classrooms contain children of mixed ages, from 2 to 6. Children are accepted into the program between ages 2 and 3 1/2.
 
Requirements
All children 3 or older must be toilet-trained. Childrens are required to be in attendance from 8:30 a.m.–3 p.m. (full-day program) or 8:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. (half-day program).
 
Montessori Programs Available
  Full Day: 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
   
  Half Day: 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (limited to 8 places). Reserved for children up to 3 years old.
   
  Children are required to attend the center five days a week.

Childcare
  Available 7 - 8:30 a.m. and 3 - 6 p.m.
   
  Supervised by qualified, experienced staff. Environment approximates comfort and freedom of the child's own home with a variety of toys and activities for individual and group play.

Yearly Schedule
Open all year. Montessori Program is September through June and Summer School is July through August.
 
Holidays
The Montessori Program will not continue during vacations and holidays. The center strives to coordinate its schedule with the San Francisco School District as closely as possible.
 
Holiday Childcare
Will be offered at the Center on non-federal holidays at an additional fee.
 
Snacks
Snacks are available to children 4 times daily — early and mid-morning and mid- and late afternoon. Parents will be asked to provide snacks for their child's class for one or more weeks during the school year.
 
Open House
Will be scheduled throughout the year. Enjoyable social occasion, shared by children, parents and staff.
 
Parent Meetings
Evening meetings are held at the Center on a regular basis. Presentations are given on many child-related topics by staff and guests.
 
Parent Conferences
Regularly scheduled for each child., twice yearly.
 
Consultation
By appointment at the request of parents or Directress.
 
Observations for Enrollment
Observations (see also Visitation) scheduled by appointment, dependent upon classroom situation. We ask that parents come for observation without their children. See also our guidelines for observing a Montessori classroom.
 
Library
Parents may borrow from a selection of literature on Montessori and subjects relating to children and their development.
 
Activities
We provide a full range of appropriate Montessori materials and activities in both classrooms:
  • Art
  • Music – group and individual experiences
  • Creative Movement
  • Exploration of nature – indoors and outdoors
  • Development of social skills
  • Introduction to History, Geography and people of the world
  • Introduction to foreign language through songs, rhymes and dance
  • Cooking and food preparation
  • Healthy snacks
  • Daily group time
 
Field trips
Field trips are imited to walking trips only, around the school neighborhood.
 
Commitment
Please note: Parents are advised, when considering Montessori for their child, to understand it is a 3-year commitment, September through June, and to plan on continuing through the kindergarten year.
